Climate Change has a Feminist Solution

I've quoted Mary Robinson. I would actually paraphrase by saying that climate change has a feminist solution which is climate justice.

Since November 2021, I've been supporting the establishment of the Pacific Island Feminist Alliance for Climate Justice. It is weaving together generations of women's local, traditional, indigenous knowledge, innovation. It is inter-generational and enabling feminist collaboration to strengthen our response to the impact of climate change on the lives of women, girls and LBTQI+ individuals in the Pacific.

The alliance (PIFA 4 CJ) has been informed by a landscape analysis which showed that feminist organizing in the Pacific is diverse, vibrant and expanding and while there have been many milestones achieved in localizing the climate justice agenda, steep challenges and barriers remain.

These include: a patriarchal system that is slow to change; a lack of an enabling environment and infrastructure for feminist organizations; compounding and frequent crises and risks which expose the gaps of reaching all women which deepen gender inequality and result in the priorities of diverse women being excluded; and a tight restrictive funding environment that leaves feminist and women’s organizations with little room to maneuver.

That is one of the reasons that PIFA 4 CJ, with the support from Global Fund for Women is putting feminist funding into the hands of our movement led committee - so that Pacific Island women are ensuring that women across our ocean continent have access to resources when they need, where there need and how they need it.

The alliance excites me, it reaffirms our collective feminist values, learning and amplifying our messages across the vast climate change agenda for just solutions - and this is where women need to be able to reform financing models. As one of our feminist leaders, Noelene Nabulivou says, It is also about changing politics as well"
