CHANGEMAKING RESOURCES

Before I drafted my resource inventory and strategy, I had a very limited idea of what a resource could be. I immediately thought resources were only funds or materials available for meaningful change to take place within a community. Now I realize that my definition of resource was very limiting. Now, I am amazed by the powerful assets I have for the change I want to see.

How could I have possibly ignored the most powerful asset that I have that drives my desire to change my community? My dream of a community where women and girls are empowered psychologically and economically through knowledge of, as well as rights to, their sexual and reproductive health through social clinics, renews my strength daily when I get out of bed. In addition to my clear vision, my willingness to be vulnerable about my own experience is a deep resource that helps me overcome cultural obstacles. When I share my personal crude abortion story and dramatise somewhat “don’t talk about” parts of sexual and reproductive health, I capture my audience’s attention and have a meaningful exchange with my community. These tools help me break down barriers and tension and encourage participation and learning.

Even with these powerful resources, I would have died unnoticed or frustrated out of my vision if not for the social resources I have. Thanks to the wonderful support I have from World Pulse, a place where I share my fears, successes and aspirations with an ever listening and supportive community, I am able to keep making my dream a reality. What an amazing way of getting local and global support. I believe with these assets and many others I am empowered to create meaningful change.
