Changemakers lab module 3: My Pitch!

My Pitch

I am Jefiter Mang.

A girls' and women's rights advocate. I am passionate about empowering girls and women so they can reach their full potentials and drive change in their communities. So I am advocating for education for the girl child.

Having been raised in a family that had scarce resources, I know how been sent home from school demoralises one and the embarrassment of  being stained during periods because of lack of menstrual sanitary products.

However, my family believed in educating the girl child and so gave me an education and because of that I can be  a voice for girls who can not go to or complete school.

Since this cause is dear to my heart and my lived experience, I aim to close the gap between boys and girls in school.

Girls form 60 % of the 18 million out of school kids. Where I work in the Northeast of Nigeria, with the Boko Haram insurgency where school girls have been abducted several times and many still in captivity,  there is a serious attitudinal problem towards educating girls.

Hence, more girls are likely never able to get an education in this area.

I source for and enroll girls who have never been to school and those who have dropped out to get at least secondary School education.

I also distribute re-useable pads because lack of sanitary products is one of the reasons girls are out of school.

With these, I aim to level the ground for girls to stay in school and get basic education as their male counterparts.

This will close the disparity between boys and girls and also the girls right to education will be met.

For every year a girl stays on in school, she learns more and achieves self reliance. Early marriage is delayed and gender based Violence is reduced.

Educated girls are better equipped and confident to do life!

With 15 USD, a girl's educational needs and reusable pads for one year can be provided for with your help. Join me and give girls in the Northeastern region of Nigeria an education.
