Changemakers Lab Module 1: My NEW SMART GOAL

JUSTICE IN COURT FOR ABUSE VICTIMS

I completed module 1- Goal Setting and Theory of Change.

Setting up my goal most resonated with me or what I needed to work on concerning my initiative. Before I started, I decided to use lesson 3 material to set my goal. To end corruption in court, I will create a non-governmental organization - JUSTICE IN COURT FOR ABUSE VICTIMS.

MY SMART GOAL:

SPECIFIC

1. NGO creation

2. RAISE VISIBILITY ABOUT: victims need to feel safe to report and want to receive justice from the law and court. But the problem is that there is no cross-checking for previous violations of the perpetrators in court, and victims face secondary victimization in court because valid documentation such as previous violations should be presented. Unfortunately, abusers are not in jail because of this. There is a need for a central database between governmental and non-governmental organizations and exchange of data reporting before the victim reaches trial. This organization will deal with the representation of abuse victims in court and fight for victims' rights. Also, support victims, educational programs, research, helpline, court reporting, and policies and procedures improvements. It's terrifying for a victim to escape abuse without help and support, and this organization will provide the necessities the victim needs to break the silence and escape.

3. RAISE VISIBILITY ABOUT: Victims shouldn't lose their money and possessions after escaping abuse. Many victims have joint loans with their abusers and joint bank accounts and other possessions. Unfortunately, there are delays in the procedures by the law, court, and Bank. These delays result in losing their money. For example, according to the law, three years after the divorce, a settlement must be made of all joint money and possessions and be shared equitably between them. But what happens if they have standard loans? First, they have to pay the loan and then the sharing. This procedure takes many years, resulting in the victim losing all money and possessions.

MEASURABLE

1. Establish legally as an organization.

2. 1000 people

ACHIEVABLE

1. I need to work on building a committee of people that will work with me.

2. Fundraisers

3. Investors

4. Supporters

5. Staff

6. Volunteers

REALISTIC

1. YES

2. Elena is taking the lead and asking for help.

3. Elena will speak out and raise visibility about the current issue to end corruption in court for abuse victims and tell her story of her abusive journey.

TIME-BOND

1. July 28, 2023, the establishment of the organization working on fulfilling its mission.

2. Mission-accomplished people are responding, and abuse victims seek support from my organization.
