CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS OF SKILDEV

CHALLENGES AND SOLUTIONS OF SKILDEV
The attitude of some people’s mindset towards women sustainable economic empowerment is a major challenge in carrying out developmental initiatives /projects in our community. Our awareness campaigns are considered as nuisance to the community and the issue of the educational benefits and empowerment of women is often not appreciated. This is on the basis of gender inequality and inequity practiced in society; after all, the general dictum dictates:’ it is men’s world!’ Do you want the women to take over government? This is viewed as lack of knowledge of what the world should be. The patriarchy practices are very strong in Africa and this is part of the reasons why Africa has been crawling in development. In addition, the attitudinal practices of some corporations in our society in the development of the community in which they operate have not been impressive due to lack of basic understanding of their social responsibility on the community based organization programmes. In this situation, it takes persistence to stabilize the wave of change.
Some community leaders posing as obstacles to some developmental projects design for their community, this result into long dialoging before the project/programme are implemented
Challenges of retaining trained and competent staff/volunteers who often are lured away by the juicy packages of the rich multi-national and corporations have serious effect on SKILDEV organization. In the same vein, the attitudes of some fellows of the foundation are not in line with the organization’s vision. Infrastructures, such as electricity supply, water and internet connectivity are part of the challenges to our work. .
The solutions to the above listed problems, is not relenting in educating the public and beneficiaries on the necessity of the developmental initiatives to the focused groups
Benefit of Corporate Social Responsibility (Corporate Social responsibility) and integrity should be encouraged in Nigeria (e.g. tax holiday and tax cut) Screening of every volunteer and staff to ascertain truthfulness and commitment to the vision of the organization’s mission (i.e. making a change)
Mandatory community service volunteerism is recommended from junior secondary schools in order to understand from teenage on how expediently community development service should be
Using pulse wire and other online communities (Web 2.0) have helped me and will continue to be a big asset to raise my voice to the world to understand the issues that are facing women in my community. It will also be used as an avenue to educate the public and beneficiaries on the needs of women economic empowerment, by designing and posting SKILDEV programmes in Blog, face book, pulse wire, tweeter. Because when one is informed she/he will perform and lack of information is deformity.
Soliciting collaboration with other pulse wire members in different parts of the world with similar vision and activities has been possible and will continue to be utilized
Posting ideas, needs, opportunities and offers by SKILDEV on pulse wire and other online communities via resource exchange is a means to an end of most of our challenges
