Celebrating My #FeministTechGoddess

I can't end my week here at the 67th Session of the #UN #Commission on the #Status of #Women without acknowledging the role of my mother Rachel Bhagwan who is my #FeministTechGoddess

A stenographer by profession, she certainly had her hands on all the emerging #ICTs ... from telex and faxes to the internet!

She easily transitioned to accomplishing the ins and outs of each new typewriter model - typewriters, which, of course, eventually led to the use of personal computers and mobile technology!

But she just didn't enjoy each new stage of tech. She was one of the leading advocates for the World YWCA message on appropriate and accessible and green tech in the mid80s - and onwards

So if you wonder why I am so committed to #SectionJ of the Beijing Platform for Action, it's because of #mymum and Anne S Walker - who together would remind me of our responsibility to make #tech work for #womensrights and #genderequality
