Breaking the Chains: My Journey in Preventing Sexual Harassment

My name is Fahmida, and I am privileged to share my story of actively preventing sexual harassment during my time as a social work student at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). From 2015 to 2018, I had the honor of serving as an active volunteer for the UN Women's project "Say No to Sexual Harassment." Let me take you through my journey of resilience, empowerment, and collective action in creating a safer campus for all.

In 2015, a door opened for me to collaborate with UN Women's project "Say No to Sexual Harassment." This partnership provided me with a platform, resources, and a network of passionate individuals who shared my vision for change. I felt empowered and ready to confront the issue head-on.

Together with my dedicated team, we organized workshops, seminars, and awareness campaigns on campus. We invited experts, survivors, and advocates to share their stories, knowledge, and experiences. These events aimed to break the silence, shatter myths, and engage students in meaningful conversations about consent, gender equality, and the importance of bystander intervention.

My work did not stop within the confines of the university campus. Together with my team, I reached out to local organizations, schools, and communities, spreading awareness about sexual harassment and fostering a culture of respect and empathy. By extending our impact beyond the university, we aimed to create a ripple effect of change, inspiring others to take action and stand against sexual harassment.

As I reflect on my journey as an active volunteer of UN Women's project "Say No to Sexual Harassment," I am filled with gratitude, hope, and a sense of achievement. Together, we shattered the chains of silence, empowered survivors, and advocated for policy change. The path was challenging, but the rewards were immeasurable. My commitment to creating a safer world continues, and I invite others to join this collective effort to prevent sexual harassment and create a future where everyone can thrive without fear.
