Areas of Interest

Skills for sustainable Development

We develop professionals ready to utilize their skills and expertise to address development challenges and contribute to sustainable development in Nigeria and Africa. Therefore, we provide training programmes, skills development opportunities, and knowledge exchange programmes aimed at equipping marginalized population with the right information, tools, best practices and implementable strategies to advance environmental sustainability and address food insecurity, climate change and water and sanitation issues. We also facilitate international exchange programmes to enhance young peoples’ exposure to emerging development issues and provide opportunity for them to learn and interact with their counterparts in other parts of the world.

Girls’ education and Gender Equality

We are drawn to the issues that affect women and girls especially with regards to access to education, information, technology, opportunities and participation in decision making. A large number of girls are still deprived of basic knowledge, competencies and necessary skills to enable them lead safe and productive lives. Such deprivations run against global thinking on gender equity in society. Therefore, we design programmes that are targeted at enhancing the education, skills, social, economic and environmental well-being of women and girls. We participate in addressing violence against women and girls and positioning women and girls for global opportunities.

 Climate change and environmental sustainability

To achieve the climate change goal and address other environmental challenges, there is need for capacity development and investments in climate-smart innovations. We build citizen’s awareness of environmental changes and empower them with knowledge and important skills to take action and participate in development and policymaking. We also support young people who have climate smart ideas with basic business knowledge and skills to unlock their business potentials and scale their ideas into viable businesses, creating opportunities for collaborations, partnerships and co-creation of solutions to environmental challenges by organizing stakeholder engagements, exchange programmes, conferences and workshops.

 Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH)

The lack of improved toilets and water supply for proper hygiene in these schools exposes young boys and girls to infectious diseases, environmental health hazards and vulnerability to molestation and sexual harassment when they go to defecate in the open. We implement projects targeted at improving sanitation standards, provision of access to clean drinking water and effecting behavioral change in school children and teachers towards maintaining high sanitation and hygiene practice, reducing open defecation and creating a safe learning environment in public primary and secondary schools in Nigeria

Projects implemented so far

1. Waste Upcycle and business mentorship for Gbagyi women in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory

We are currently supporting 25 Gbagyi women in Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to earn alternative income by training them in waste upcycling and providing them with business mentorship to enable women to run their own successful waste to wealth business in the future. The goal of the project is to encourage wealth creation from waste and discarded materials that could have found their way into the environment, landfills and drainage systems thereby promote environmental sustainability. The women are trained to use different scrap bottles to make bespoke, durable and eco-conscious vases and conversion of plastic materials into interior decors and furniture which they can then sell to earn income to support their families. We also support them with business mentorship to equip them with marketing and financial management skills to maximize their income and make good financial decision. Furthermore, the women are trained on environmental conservation and advocacy and empowered to become green ambassadors for the conservation of trees in their communities.

2. WASH Gender Consortium with IHE Delft Institute for Water Education, Netherlands, University of Uyo and other partners

As part of the WASH Gender Project consortium, Devimpath is ensuring that project implementation process involves women by mobilizing women and engaging CBOs and using findings to engage policy makers and political representatives for policy changes in the water sector.

3. School SGBV sensitization

Devimpath visits schools to sensitize students about School-related Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and build their capacity to respond to them.
