And the 2020 Spirit Awards Go To...

In 2019, we launched the first-ever World Pulse Spirit Awards to a wave of celebration and sisterhood. It was so well-loved by all of you in our global community that we decided to celebrate it every year!

We asked you to nominate a World Pulse member to receive global recognition for the impact she creates in the World Pulse community and in the world, as well as to honor the life-changing connections we make with each other in this community.

In 2020, we also introduced three nomination categories:

  • Storytellers, those who raise their voice on World Pulse,

  • Champions, those who leave comments and mentor other members,

  • and Activators, those who are actively building impact and training online and in person.

We ended up receiving over 132 nominations that recognized 51 different people who embody the World Pulse Spirit across all three categories.

Will you join us in celebrating the outstanding leaders who will be honored this year with the Spirit Award? Join Us on 26 February at 2 p. M. UTC (time zone converter).

The Grand Prize Awardees Are…

three Grand Prize awardees shone brightly amongst all the nominations we received. We’re honored to congratulate the 2020 Spirit Awards Grand Prize Awardees for being stand-out leaders in our global sisterhood!

The Storyteller Grand Prize Award goes to…

Nini Mappo | Kenya

One of Nini’s nominations states, “Her words speak life and anyone whose posts she comments on is motivated to write more. ”

Nini says on receiving the Storyteller Grand Prize Award, “[It’s] just marvelous. It really is incredible, because first of all, World Pulse accorded me a global audience of changemakers and change activators, sisters with whom I enjoy connecting so much, and who have enriched my life tremendously. As though that wasn’t enough, now, through its Spirit Awards, this wonderful platform has gone a step further to acknowledge and reward me for the beauty and impact that it has facilitated me to create. What a privilege! So, I Say, ‘thank you, World Pulse’. Twice over. With my whole being, smiles, and tons of sparkles. ”

The Champion Grand Prize Award goes to…

Kirthi Jayakumar | India

One of Kirthi’s nominations states, “I first fell in love with Kirthi's work when I read about her GBV app, and I lamented to myself that I wish I had such an app up and running when I was in the pits of my own GBV saga. [And I Also admired] her response to Amazon Aramide's demise. ”

Kirthi says on receiving the Champion Grand Prize Award, “This is a gift, a gift like nothing else. I find it hard to believe that a thing like patriarchy or racism or structural violence can thrive: it doesn't have the lifeblood of love and solidarity that we, feminists, women for change, do. I will cling to this lifeblood. Because it will sustain me, as it will sustain us all, as we dismantle the violences that lie ahead of, around, and among us on this planet. ”

The Activator Grand Prize Award goes to…

Regina Afanwi Young | Cameroon

One of Regina’s nominations states, “She is like a community matriarch, to whom people come because they know they will be cared for. Through her updates, it is clear that there is not a need that Regina turns away, often utilizing her own resources to help those in need around her. ”

Regina says on receiving the Activator Grand Prize Award, “I am very honoured and delighted to receive this amazing award! It Is truly humbling to be acknowledged by my World Pulse sisters through the Spirit Award for the impact that I have been making through my work with persons with disabilities and vulnerable persons in my community. Thank you so much for all your wonderful motivation, inspiration and encouragement in this sisterhood. ”
