ALIVE BUT DEATH

Giving a talk to secondary school students on mental health, substance abuse and Addiction.

I am Marie-Louis from Cameroon. Giving the title of my story "alive but death" could sound contradicting but in it's real sense and context it's not especially when you grow up as a child having dreams.

Living with my foster parents, the only one thing I desired was having a sense of belonging.  When I couldn't get that I tried to create my own world within me, somehow I was succeeding but when I got in to a relationship which turnout to be abusive and fake I lost everything. I did not just lost the hope of getting what I have been yearning for all my life, I even lost the efforts I put to create my own world (in my mind), I lived like a slave both physically and psychologically. My mental health was going down day after day before I got into depression and then with help I could overcome this mental illness.

Working as a counselor now I realize that many people both young and old suffer a lot not because they don't have enough to feed on but because their mental health is not strong enough to sustain what they already have or because their mental health is not stronge enough to resist any psychological abuse (the disease faced by many today), thereby making them unhappy even when they look so.

Because of this I have created a WhatsApp group with this link 👇https://chat.whatsapp.com/GAadM9qwxAlJFPQaba8SAQ  with the objective of building mental capacity and resilience amongst young people and women. We offer free online training in the domain of mental health and other related issues, to help people strengthen their mental capacity and become more resilient. We are over two hundred members in the group now and the feedback has been great to how many inthe group are benefiting from our Free online lessons. We hope to reach out to many subsequently and also work with schools, youth groups and women's groups. Our goal is to help people become happy, happier and live the life they dream of and not necessarily being alive but death to themselves and their dreams.
