Advocacy campaign is an individual marketing effort that applies one or more advocacy tactics to get the word out to your supporters, with an appeal for them to take specific action , in support of a larger goal . Advocacy occurs at many different levels and is conducted by many different groups and can support change in many different ways . Advocacy campaigns look different based on who is running them .
The advocacy campaign that stands out in my minds , is of an advocacy campaign which was made by a specific government university students ( makerere university) which is the main university in Uganda / Kampala. Makerere university council scrapped free meals to all students due to the high food prices and the financial squeeze at Uganda's biggest university. The council, the institutions top governing body , resolved that every student in the government scholarship scheme should instead be given a daily meal allowance of 2000 Ugandan shillings . The council also approved a 10 percent fees increment for every new student at the University. However students led by their guild president planned and led an advocacy campaign opposing the two management decisions and demanded for the resignation of the University's vice chancellor reason being that he has failed to manage the University. They marched holding posters with written messages , such as , " we demand 10% policy be abolished with immediate effect " " meals be returned to halls of this public university" " we the students want professor to resign immediately if he has failed to run this public university in the interest of future generation of this country " we are tired of theft of our money in makerere " and more . This advocacy campaign led to other university students to act by refusing to attend their classes demanding that the government should act by attending to the demands of the makerere students . The students were called for a peaceful dialogue and their issues were resolved .
