Professor Wangari Maathai

When you slept on the 25th of September 2011 tears filled the Nation, Kenya, and the Globe that felt your impact through the Green Belt Movement. Nature never recovered, maybe will forever remain an orphan.

You left without a warning but years on, your departure is so fresh in our minds. No more trees to applaud you for a job well done during your reign. Poverty is making its roots stronger by the day and sadly conflict found its way back to us, Brothers and sisters who were meant to protect one another now fight themselves.

Your legacy is something else because nobody has matched your charisma and dedication. The environment is crying for a younger you to liberate it from torture. It wants someone to revive it and save the Nation from perishing due to drought caused by harsh climatic conditions.

Mama, I know you are watching us, Please send someone our way with a desire like yours to continue the fight from where you left off. Kenya was lively, green and so beautiful but I doubt if I can say the same about it right now. The screams are deafening, hear the cry of your children and send us a helper!

If we would turn back the hands of times we would want you by our side to push us harder to do right by the environment and maybe we wouldn’t be facing this calamity. Keep resting well but the gap you left is irreplaceable, everything you worked for is straining by the day so please send us a younger Wangari Maathai.
