A mother's role

I was not sure if this piece fit here perfectly. However I feel, to have a just society, we need to teach right things to our kids. We need to dissolve the gender norms and roles. I wrote this short piece for my friends, new and aspiring parents.

You are a mother now, a woman who nurtured a life inside you,

a life that took birth in your womb or perhaps in your heart.

But do not forget you are a person first,

Do not let this new identity snatch away the older one,

Do not let yourself get carried away in the wave of motherhood,

Do not crush your dreams to fulfill their dreams.

Take this as an opportunity to show,

your daughter what she should be when she grows up,

or your son how he should treat a woman when he grows up.

Take this as an opportunity to show them,

work is not a mere source of money but it was your ambition,

show them only the relations do not define you,

but you also have a uniqueness outside that.

Teach them there is nothing as gender roles,

she can ride a bike or he can cook a meal,

she can laugh out loud and he can cry if he feels like.

Tell her she needs not to be a delicate princess,

and tell him he can ask for help.

Teach them the meaning of equality and sense of humanity,

Tell them they are equal,

gender, Caste, social status, nothing defines a person but the character does.

Teach them to be honest, to respect all beings.

Teach them the meaning of independence and freedom.
