A heartbreaking bridge

There are those moments that strike our hearts.

Since I have been traveling, I have seen many remarkable things and I always stop in front of street-art and slogans written on the walls. Each of these moments strangely brings me back… to France.

To a reality that crosses borders, to all this daily violence and to all the feminist organizations that do an incredible job of recording and fighting.

Today it's not just a slogan or a collage that I noticed on my way, but an entire bridge covered with the names of victims of feminicide.

In Ecuador, there were 121 femicides in 2014 and 332 femicides last year.

In France, these are:

146 feminicides in 2019

102 in 2020

122 in 2021

112 in 2022

and no less than 46 feminicides since the beginning of the year.

I am thinking of the Inter-Orga Feminicides and of NousToutes, Fédération France Victimes, HandsAway and of all the associations and collectives that are mobilizing around issues of sexist and sexual violence.

I can't help but have a thought for Oleñka Carrasco, Venezuelan feminist artist, and her work-performance in honor of the victims and their names which was hosted at Sist'Her with Empow'Her last November.

The struggle continues, every day, everywhere.

Their names matter and gender-based and sexual violence must be recognized, fought and must end.
