1951 - 1952 My Life

My Life - An Autobiography - a continuation - we are into 2014 , but my mind is back in 1951 - way back 63 years - travel back along memory lane - 1951 summer was a period of elation , a time of pain , a period of disappointment , a wait with anxiousness - First May 1951 I was elated having passed my I.SC Examination of Andhra University , Bi.P.C. Hindu College First - this I have already talked about previously - I was preparing to apply for Medical College - but now the pain - I was struck down with Enteric Fever , Typhoid , Salmonella and in those days Lederle has not yet come out with Chloramphenicol ( Chloromycetin ) - Doctor Yellapragada Subbarao , on whose shoulders Lederle grew into a pharmaceutical giant is still trying his best to find Aureomycin , Chloromycetin , Folic Acid - everyone knows about Alexander Fleming and Penicillin , but how many have heard about that great scientist DR Yellapragada Subbarao - I have to say a few words about this great man - he may be a great scientist but I know what a heartless man he was leaving behind an young bride with her parents , he went away to USA to pursue his scientific discoveries and never went back to that young bride nor did he bring her with him to USA - she was waiting in Eluru till her last days - me I too went to England in 1966 leaving behind my young bride but I sponsored her journey to England so she came and joined me - in my own way I did an honest job - I may not be A Saint , I am not A Great Scientist - but I did what was expected of me , except my duty as a son of which I have no words to say except to wait for Divine Retribution on The Day Of Judgment - sorry for digression , that Typhoid , 20 days of fluid nourishment with remittant fever , coated tongue , doughy abdomen , sweats , insomnia , no medicines except Diaphoretic Mixture to abate pyrexia ( fever ) - I survived at last , but the last day for application for medical college has passed resulting in disappointment - what could I do . It was not my fault , so after an agonizing anxious months of waiting I joined B.Sc. Zoology with Botany , Chemistry , and English as subjects in Andhra Christian College , Guntur - a circuitous journey having started my Schooling In U L C M Christian High School and now In Luthern Andhra Christian College . 1951 - 1952 my heart is not really in my B.Sc. Course , still I did very well and at the end of First Year I stood first in English and scored high marks in Zoology , Botany , Chemistry - Thanks to my Teachers - Jogarao gaaru , John Prasadarao gaaru , Samuel gaaru , Vardaanam gaaru , David gaaru , Seetharaam gaaru - and as destiny would decide I had to leave A C College in 1952 without completing my B.Sc. Degree as I am happy to inform you all my friends , family , and well wishers that IN JULY 1952 I WAS ADMITTED INTO GUNTUR MEDICAL COLLEGE AS A STUDENT OF FIRST M B B S CLASS - I will come back to share my joy and my Medical Journey ---
