self defense victim of the law
this was just posted on twitter by:
"Secretary Antony Blinken @SecBlinken 40m United States government official On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women and the start of #16DaysOfActivism Against Gender-Based Violence, we stand firm in our ongoing and unwavering commitment to eliminate gender-based violence in all its forms."
i replied with "release all the women imprisoned in usa for self defense murder of their domestic violence perpetrator". plenty of research.
America’s criminal justice system is designed by and for men................In many states, the legal system does not allow for “duress” as a valid defense. Based on British common law from the 1600s, the legal principle robs individuals of acting in self-defense, especially when it entails the death of a violent or abusive attacker. This leaves battered women in a no-win situation. Their only choice is to die at the hands of their abuser or prison,

Men, on average, are sentenced to two to six years in prison for murdering a female partner, according to the ACLU. But when women kill their male partners (which is often in self-defense), they get an average of 15 years............. Kim Dadou Brown received a 17-year prison sentence for shooting and killing her boyfriend after he climbed on top of her and said he was going to kill her in 1991
Personally, I have only met one woman who was found not guilty of murdering her spouse, in self defense. She was an elder, holding her walking stick with a feather attached, speaking her story at a local woman's gathering.
It is customary law in most states that a person charge another person with domestic assault, but The state of Oregon implemented a law that placed the police in charge of making an arrest during a response to a DV call.
Under Oregon law, when police respond to a domestic disturbance and find probable cause to believe that an assault has occurred or one party has placed the other in fear of serious physical harm “the officer shall arrest and take into custody the alleged assailant.” This means that any domestic disturbance investigated by the police in Oregon will likely end in an arrest........While this attitude has gone a long way towards protecting the victims of domestic violence, it has also had an unintended side effect. The increased vigilance being used to protect domestic violence victims has also led to an increase in false accusations of domestic violence. Parties can often find themselves arrested, charged, and prosecuted for merely defending themselves against their partner's aggression.

Inspired by the news of Iran, then seeing this tweet by USA's Secretary of State, then thinking of our own women locked up in prison for self defense. My intention for writing this story is to get you all to press officials to release these women from prison, to rewrite the laws and acknowledge the self defense defense. I just attempted to get contact information for Secretary Antony Blinken , but that appears impossible. So, USA activist readers, you know what to do, and who to contact in your area to educate and encourage change to these laws. state level, but if we could get a national law.
Girls really need sexual self defense classes in elementary school. Schools need to teach civics and how to create laws. We need to share the lessons of these laws so they can be improved upon.
