THE RED PRIDE PROJECT

The protracted armed conflict wrecking the North and South West Regions of Cameroon has caused untold suffering to the masses.

According to OCHA, December 2020, 3 million persons are affected by the conflict in the Anglophone regions of Cameroon and 60% of those affected are women and girls during menstruation due to poverty and lack of sanitary pads. A common and significant challenge they face is the ability to manage their menstruation safely, comfortably and with dignity. Girls and young women lack access to basic materials such as: sanitary pads, cloths and under wears that are needed to manage monthly flow. This is intensified by cultural beliefs and taboos and girls and women hesitate to speak openly about menstruation. The lack of awareness coupled with the lack of pads has forced several women and girls to use unhygienic cloths and objects such rags and leaves and often skip some of their daily activities.

This initiative is important because it will raise awareness on menstrual hygiene management and maximize infections  related to poor menstrual hygiene.

The goal of this project therefore is to address menstrual hygiene challenges faced by adolescent girls and young women between the ages of 12 and 21 in Bui Division. This will be to Restore the dignity and livelihood of women and girls through sensitization campaigns on menstrual hygiene management and  provision of dignity kits.
