Too young to speak about the inevitable future

This is a oil painting titled The Reluctant Bride painted by Auguste Toulmouche.

This is a portrayal of female frustration and resignation regarding marriages.

I have been hearing about marriage since I was old enough to comprehend the societal structures. It is basically about the expectations and deadlines set by the society in which none are happy by the construct except the already married people regretting their parents’ decisions.

Once, i decided to point out the injustices caused by the system when this conversation came up at a family gathering. I was mocked and told that i was too young to talk about it.

This is exactly how patriarchy works it enforces a particular mindset from a young age and normalises abuse and toxicity, so that you do not question it. Despite its efforts if someone manages to see through it and question it, they are shamed for speaking about it for any absurd reason they can find.

Shame is one of the tools patriarchy uses to ensure its continuity. Do not get fooled by it. A world where rapists are left on account of being young or having potential and are getting nominated for awards and high position, your age is definitely not a source to be ashamed of, for addressing concerning issues.

Marriage is not the unavoidable truth,

it a personal choice.
