This artwork reflects resilience, silent struggles & strength to keep going despite life’s pressures.
When people talk about global crises, they often focus on politics, economic struggles, climate disasters, or conflicts shown on television screens and social media. But behind many headlines, there are quieter stories that rarely receive attention — the emotional sacrifices, lost dreams, and silent struggles carried by women every single day.
I am one of those women.
From childhood, I was sincere about my education and dreams. I loved reading books, participating in cultural activities, and learning new things. Like many young girls, I believed education could open doors to a brighter future. I worked hard and carried big dreams in my heart.
At one point in my life, I received an opportunity that felt life-changing: an MBA offer letter from Finland. For me, it was more than an academic opportunity; it represented hope, growth, independence, and the possibility of building a better future for myself and my family. I imagined studying in a new country, expanding my knowledge, and proving that women from Bangladesh could also achieve global dreams.
But life for women is often more complicated than dreams.
At that time, I was already carrying the responsibilities of motherhood, family, and household duties. My children were young, and I had no strong support system around me. Like many women in Bangladesh, I found myself standing between personal ambition and family responsibility. In our society, women are often expected to sacrifice their own dreams quietly for the wellbeing of others.
In the end, I could not go to Finland.
Even today, remembering that unfinished journey still brings emotional pain to my heart. Sometimes people think sacrifices made by women are “normal,” but they rarely understand the emotional weight behind them. When a woman gives up an opportunity, she is not simply changing a plan — sometimes she is letting go of a part of herself.
This is one of the silent mental health struggles many women carry behind closed doors.
In Bangladesh, countless women grow up hearing that they must adjust, compromise, and prioritize everyone else before themselves. Daughters are often treated differently from sons. After marriage, many women continue facing emotional neglect, lack of appreciation, and overwhelming responsibilities inside their marital homes. Society praises women for sacrifice, but rarely asks what those sacrifices cost emotionally.
Many women silently battle stress, anxiety, loneliness, emotional exhaustion, and depression while continuing to fulfill every responsibility expected from them. They cook, clean, care for children, support family members emotionally, and continue smiling even when they feel mentally drained inside.
Mental health remains a deeply neglected issue in our society. Emotional struggles are often dismissed with phrases like “be patient,” “this is every woman’s life,” or “you worry too much.” Women are expected to stay strong endlessly, even when they are emotionally overwhelmed.
I personally experienced moments when I felt emotionally exhausted from balancing responsibilities, personal disappointments, and the invisible pressure society places on women. Yet, like many others, I continued moving forward because life does not pause for women’s emotional pain.https://www.facebook.com/share/r/1GuXcgsNyi/
What hurts most is that many women are never truly seen. Their sacrifices become invisible. Their unfinished dreams remain untold stories hidden inside them for years.
Today, I want the world to know that women’s mental health deserves attention, empathy, and respect. Emotional wellbeing is not a luxury. Women need safe spaces where they can express pain without judgment. They need support systems inside families, workplaces, and communities. They need opportunities to grow without being forced to choose between their dreams and their responsibilities.
I also believe families must raise daughters and sons differently. Girls should be encouraged to dream boldly and pursue opportunities without guilt. Boys should be taught empathy, emotional intelligence, and shared responsibility at home. A healthier society begins with changing these mindsets.
Governments, educational institutions, and civil society organizations should invest more in mental health awareness and support services, especially for women and caregivers. Counseling and emotional support should not be considered shameful. Women should not have to suffer silently to be considered “good” daughters, wives, or mothers.
To readers around the world, I ask for three simple actions:
Listen to women without judgment.
Support women’s dreams instead of limiting them.
Normalize conversations about mental health in families and communities.
Behind many headlines are women carrying invisible emotional burdens every day. Their stories may not appear on television or newspapers, but they matter deeply.
Today, by sharing my story, I am giving a voice to the silent sacrifices many women continue to carry inside their hearts.
Sometimes I wonder how many women are silently carrying unfinished dreams inside their hearts while continuing to fulfill every responsibility expected from them. Society often measures women by how much they sacrifice for others, but rarely by how much they wanted for themselves.
Over time, this constant emotional suppression affects women deeply. Many suffer silently from anxiety, sadness, loneliness, emotional burnout, and loss of self-worth. Yet they continue smiling for their children, caring for aging parents, supporting husbands, and managing households without complaint because society has normalized women’s silent endurance.
I believe real empowerment is not only about education or employment. True empowerment means creating a world where women do not have to choose between their dreams and their families. It means giving women emotional support, respect, equal opportunities, and the freedom to prioritize their mental wellbeing without guilt.
As a mother, I especially hope the next generation of girls will grow up differently. I want my daughter to know that her dreams matter, her emotions matter, and her voice matters. I want her generation to live in a society where women are not judged for being ambitious, emotional, independent, or tired. Women should not have to hide their pain to appear strong.
Every woman carries a story behind her smile. Some stories are spoken aloud, while others remain hidden for years. Today, I chose to speak not only for myself, but also for countless women whose sacrifices remain unseen and whose emotional struggles are still ignored.
